Family Cancer Retreat

A supportive weekend of education, connection, and renewal for New Mexican patients & families facing cancer.

Family Cancer Retreat participants

Nationally recognized and offered each year, the Family Cancer Retreat is designed for adult cancer patients, survivors, and their primary caregivers. The retreat provides practical education and supportive connection to help families better understand and navigate the cancer journey - from the challenges of an initial diagnosis and treatment to the emotional and everyday realities that often continue afterward.

Connection and Community

Beyond the educational sessions, the retreat provides families with an opportunity to step away from the day-to-day pressures of cancer and spend time with others who truly understand their experience.

Over the course of the weekend, participants share conversations, learn from one another, and often form meaningful friendships. Many of these supportive connections continue in the months and years ahead.

Can children participate?

We welcome children ages 14 and older to attend the retreat and participate in all educational sessions alongside their parents.

Children under 14 are not permitted in the conference areas. Parents must supervise their children at all times so that everyone can enjoy a positive experience.

No cost to attend

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, the entire program - including meals, lodging, and all educational activities - is provided at no cost to participants.

We understand that dealing with a serious illness often creates significant financial stress for families. Providing this retreat free of charge helps ensure that families can access the support and education they need.

"Every program and every piece of the retreat was put together wonderfully. I believe that everyone got something out of it and will take it home and use the knowledge they gained in one way or another."

Launched in 2002, the Family Cancer Retreat has grown into the largest general cancer education program in New Mexico and the largest program of its kind in the United States. The program has also been recognized by the Cancer Patient Education Network for its impact and approach to patient and caregiver education.

Today, it remains the only program of its kind available to patients and families in New Mexico.
